Race Roster has recently released Predictive Tracking which allows for spectators of the event to view the estimated finishing time and progression of a runner plotted on a visual race route map with the use of split points set up on the course. Now, we are releasing predictive tracking without the need for additional split points provided by a timer. By including participant estimated finishing time within your results set, runners can be plotted on the race route based off their estimated time, allowing spectators to view real-time estimations of the runner's progression on the course.
To learn how to set up predictive tracking using estimated finishing times, please follow the steps below.
1. From your event dashboard, click on Settings -> Registration questions from the lefthand side menu.
2. From your registration questions settings, create a new question titled "What is your estimated finishing time?". This question will be asked to your participants during registration. View our guide on how to create a custom registration question for more info on this.
When creating your questions, ensure that the question is set up as a single line text box, with custom validation enabled and specified for the time format you wish to collect (Ex: HH:MM:SS). The participant's response to the question will be used as the data point providing the estimated finish time to plot the runner's progression on the course map on race day.
3. Next, navigate to your results dashboard by clicking Apps -> Results from your lefthand side menu.
4. From your results dashboard, scroll down to find the race that you will be setting up predictive tracking on and click to expand the race settings.
5. Upload a race route to your event by selecting a GPX or KML map file. A race route must be uploaded in order to properly plot runners on a visual map.
After uploading your race route, ensure that the route is enabled to display on all pages, and that the setting show participants on map is also enabled.
6. Scroll down to the live predictive tracking settings and enable the setting by clicking the checkbox provided. Insert a default gun start time to be used in the case that chip time or segment time are not available.
7. Upload the results for your race and ensure that there is a column containing estimated finishing time data within your results set. Please reference our guide on how to upload results to Race Roster for more information on this step.
8. After uploading your results, head to your results page and select your desired runners from the results set from the following tab. Any runners selected to follow will appear on the tracking page, allowing you to view the predicted placement of each runner on the race route.
9. Click on the Following tab to follow the selected runners on the previously uploaded race route. The route will display the real-time estimated progression of the selected runners, using the collected estimated finish time column data from the uploaded results set.
10. To highlight a specific runner on the race route, click the View button within the runner's predicted finish tab on the righthand side of the page.
Any highlighted runners will appear as a green circle on the race route.
