Within Race Roster's email campaign tool, event organizers can create campaigns to target any users who entered the registration process, but did not complete a registration. Creating an abandoned registration email campaign can be useful to reach any potential participants who are on the fence about registering, or serve as a reminder for those who forgot to complete their initial registration.
To learn how to create an email campaign from start to finish, visit this article. To learn the specific settings within the creation process that support abandoned registration emails, take note of the key steps below.
1. In Select (step 1), choose either of these two options:
- New Campaign: This option will start fresh without any pre-set triggers, allowing you to select triggers on your own in step 3, and to select any design template of your choice later on in step 5.
- Abandoned Registration: This option will pre-select the triggers in step 3 of creating your campaign, and will pre-select your campaign's design template within step 5.
Click "Save & continue" once you have made your selection.
2. For Set Up (step 2), be sure to:
-
choose the campaign type "Transactional"
-
keep the email subject line as our default "Just a few more steps to the finish line..." or write in your own; the point is for the subject and pre-header to politely remind the recipient to complete their registration
3. In Triggers (step 3), your triggers will be pre-selected for you if you chose the abandoned registration default campaign within step 1. If you did not make that choice in step 1, select the following triggers for your campaign:
- Incomplete Registration -> Participant left before completing registration
You may add additional conditions to suit your event needs. For example, perhaps you want the email sent only to abandoned registrations of a specific sub-event. However, this trigger setup is the minimum necessary to send an email campaign to those with incomplete registrations. Once that's done, click the "Save & continue" button.
4. Within Schedule (step 4) of your campaign, "Delay sending" will be the only option for campaign schedule type. Select the "Delay campaign sending for" timeframe. For example, if you'd like the campaign sent 24 hours after the user abandons their registration, select 0 Months, 1 Days, 00 Hours and 00 minutes. The minimum delay is 1 hour. As always, click to save and continue.
5. In Template (step 5), select the template of your choice. We recommend either designing your own template (blank) or selecting the "Abandoned registration" default template that includes specific language to encourage your incomplete registrants to return to the registration form. Click "Save & continue" once you've selected a template.
7. In Customize (step 6), add or remove text, image and merge tag elements to tailor the email body you would like to send out to incomplete registrants. Text, images and merge tags within the abandoned cart email template can be changed and customized as well. Rename the template if needed.
8. For the remaining steps in the email campaign creation process, proceed as you'd like.
NOTE: You can set up and send multiple abandoned registration email campaigns, with different delay periods in Schedule (step 4). If a user attempts to register but does not complete the process, they will receive all applicable delayed emails.
